CACHALOT OF HOBART - THE ULTIMATE EXPEDITION CRUISER!
Cachalot of Hobart is a rare cruising gem. Built to the highest specification, she is ready to take her new owners to any destination and latitude. She is equally at home in the polar ice or the shallow lagoons of the world's coral reefs. (Sistership photos of Volo in Glacier Bay)
The design features a powerful, vertically-lifting, ballasted keel and lifting rudder capability, enabling her to operate safely in less than 1m of water while still being able to power to windward with a 2.4m draft and a cruiser-friendly, efficient cutter rig. Drop boards each side of the rudder provide excellent downwind tracking performance. All lines lead to the Stainless steel anderson winches ( one electric) in the cockpit enabling safe, short-handed sailing.
Designed as the ultimate world cruiser, the design is well proven having cruised extensively in Alaska, Tierra de Fuego and much between.
Below decks Cachalot is fitted out professionally to the highest standards. The best Tasmanian timbers (Huon pine and myrtle) are featured along with a two-part polyurethane paint finish on the wall lining giving a light and open space. Three layers of high-performance insulation, along with double-glazed windows ensure against condensation, providing a warm and comfortable living space. The Webasto hydronic diesel heater comes into its own in colder climates, providing hot water and keeping the cabins dry and warm.
Offshore, Cachalot is safe and efficient. A Hydrovane provides effective and power-free steering, with an electric-hydraulic autopilot steering her safely in confined, coastal waters. A Sailing Gen hydro-generator adds to the power provided by the solar panels and wind generator (D400). In the event of storm conditions, Cachalot has the necessary reinforced attachment points for a Jordan Series Drogue (not supplied). The Takacat dingy is big enough for surfing, diving and other activities. It packs away into a bag for offshore work, and fits easily on the foredeck for coastal hops.
Cachalot is adventure-ready. Below the water-line the paint-systems and anti-foul are new and the standing rigging has just been replaced. Key spares such as an alternator, a starter-motor and an additional electric autopilot are on board. Fill up with fuel, pack the provisions in the huge storage spaces and head off.
In Superb condition as just prepared for a voyage to Alaska which was aborted for health reasons.
