Details
This Canadian Sailcraft 40 WK is located in the Gold Coast at Hope Harbour and having completed annual out of water maintenance in Feb 2023 is ready to take her new owners on their next adventure.

Built in Ontario Canada during a time when fibreglass was laid thicker, she feels and looks solid. A CS40 is a rare find in Australian waters but worth noting they have a strong following and owners association in the US and Canada.

Designed as a cruiser racer she has proved her capability and comforts as a cruiser over the last five years sailing between Hobart and Cape Tribulation on the East Coast of Australia, island hopping and extended passage making with the past two owners, both of whom diligently performed maintenance and upgrades throughout their ownership. This said she is a great boat to sail too, with a fin keel, large deep rudder and oversized wheel she's lively and responsive at the helm.

The helm and cockpit is modern and comfortable and deep enough for a family with children to feel comfortable underway. The well designed spray dodger extends into the cockpit and includes a very handy grab rail along its overhead edge. All working lines lead back to the clutches on the cabin top inside the protection of the spray dodger. The solid perspex and fibreglass hood over the companion way making for a unique feature allowing clear visibility ahead, or above to sails and mast lights when in darkness or rainy weather, avoiding the need to leave the companion way.

This yacht is rigged as a mast head sloop (main and headsail) with option to sail as a cutter (additional sail hanked on to inner forestay) to increase sail plan options. In most conditions the inner forestay is easily stored on the mast and the yacht is sailed on the main and furling headsail alone. The 110% headsail is by Quantum and in excellent condition. The battened mainsail has three reef points (currently rigged 1 and 3) and drops into lazy jacks and a boom bag (restitched, repaired and new zipper Feb 2023). She is equipped with a Monitor Wind Vane steering mechanism on the transom and this is globally recognised as the preferred wind steering system and has provided hundreds of hours of reliable battery free helming for us over the past few years. A Walder boombrake rigged down to the chain plates and controlled from the cockpit with an independent mainsheet block gives greater control when jibing and peace of mind in downwind conditions.

The engine is a Craftsmen Marine CM4.42, a 4 cylinder 42 hp diesel built by Mitsubishi with only 1860hrs since new.

The alternator charges the house and starter batteries and heats cabin water in the 25Lt reservoir. The engine is self priming and a new Aeroflow high performance fuel pump was fitted Nov 2022. Fuel Capacity 190Lts. Plus 4 x Fuel Jerry cans on board for reserve of 80Lts.

The house battery bank was new in May 2022 with 4 new Rolls brand AGM (Sealed Maintenance Free Glass Matt) providing 500Ah for the 12V house systems, and since installed never dropping under 90% charge. Solar charge is provided by 4x100w panels on the stern arch and managed and controlled by the Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor and the MPPT 100/30 charge controller (Bluetooth enabled so can monitor via smartphone).

The Silentwind 400+ wind generator also feeds the house batteries and is managed by the separate SilentWind charge controller. While wind has proved more intermitant than solar has proven well worth having in prolonged overcast conditions and at night when B&G autopilot has extended use under passage.

The shore power 240v connection charges batteries through Xanrex Trucharge controller, heats water, and enables the 240v power points within the boat. There is another Xantrex 500 inverter for 240v when on batteries only and away from shore power.
