A Rare Find...
Designed by Robert Perry and built by premium Taiwanese boat building yard, Ta-Shing in 1983.
The Panda 40 differs from other similar double ender's in that she has an integral cutaway long keel flatter bilges and 41% ballast ratio for more stability upwind for better performance on and off the wind. She was fitted with a brand new Yanmar 75hp Turbo in 2020 done just 235 hours, New Alu 300 Litre fuel tank, New 800A/hr industrial type Lithium Batteries with custom Cell Balance 2020, Standing Rigging 2015 with staylock terminals, New Victron 5000 inverter /charger 2020. On deck she has a spacious yet safe cosy aft cockpit, wide side decks, two furlex headsail furlers for genoa and staysail, leech battened mainsail( needs replacing). Teak decks replaced with fibreglass and painted finish for low maintenance 2020.
Down below she is a large volume very spacious boat. There is a spacious u-shaped galley to port aft that has acres of bench top space, top loading refrigeration ( Ozifridge 2020), Gimballed Force 10 three burner stove, /oven/grill, lots of storage cupboards etc. There is a double quarter cabin opposite, large u-shaped saloon seating/ dining area to port midships with pilot berth/ settee opposite, bathroom with seperate shower module to port forward and a double pullman berth in the bow.
The solid teak interior timberwork could do with a strip and revarnish to restore it to as new, a lot of elbow grease i know, but well worth it as the whole interior will glow like a new boat. I know, because i did it to the interior of my Baba Perry 35, a smaller sister to this vessel before heading off across to the Pacific Islands and New Zealand in her many years ago.

New Yanmar 75hp Turbo fitted with new shaft, gland mechanical seal, cutlass and a German 20' Vari Prop. The fuel tank has been changed from the original to an ALU 300Litre. Electric primary lift pump and dual fuel filters, 125A - Alt (hr meter 0235.50 hrs) so has just been run in. Auto Pilot CMT works extremely well with very low current draw - Bespoke wheel pully fabricated so it's not clamped to the wheel. Gear throttle rebushed to positive feel (no slop) control. Auto Pilot drive was custom built so it does not clamp to the wheel. Auto pilot was checked and recalibrated for Southern Hemisphere by mounting the fluxgate compass in the head unit to keep away from any magnetic interference and now works 100% perfectly. CPT Auto Pilots are well renowened for low current and high performance.

Mast / Rigging
Standing rigging replaced 2015. All Shroud Turnbuckles removed and cleaned, the Surelocks checked and reinstated correctly. Turnbuckles and all stainless fittings were polished before replacing. Main Headsail 2 Speed Winches were removed and thoroughly cleaned and reassembled with marine grade grease. Cockpit winch handle etc lockers were painstakingly removed and rebuilt and are not screwed into the glass but are held in place by white silicon. Deck prisms removed and perspex was fitted after teak decks removal.
Deck Gear
Sun Awning, Dodger, All 15x bronze Portholes were dismantled and new perspex was fitted and new neopreen seals fitted.

Remarks
Attractive lines, strong high quality build, spacious interior, integral fin keel skeg hung rudder craftsman teak interior that needs stripping and revarnishing as well as a few other very doable projects if you are handy, hence the low price but this truly is an all weather bluewater cruising yacht and bargain priced if you are prepared to give this gorgeous lady a refit to reap the reward of owning an absolutely stunning yacht.
