Details
Just Listed! Built to Lloyd's A1 scantlings, the Pretorien 35 is a fine example of the high quality vessels produced by the Wauquiez yard in France. A popular design in the European and North American markets, over 200 hand-laid hulls were produced over a decade from the late 70s. The 3-ton lead keel, rebedded in 2017, is fastened to a substantial stub with 3/4" SS bolts and double nuts, and combines the advantages of integral keels and external ballast. With a 46% ballast ratio, this solidly built cruiser is a stiff and powerful boat that delivers a soft sea motion usually found in larger vessels. Able to perform well in moderate conditions, the Pretorien 35 really shows her true colours when the wind picks up. The reverse transom provides the benefit of a longer waterline for added hull speed, and the large skeg-hung rudder, mounted well aft, delivers powerful steering control when conditions get heavier. Well appointed for short-handed sailing, s/v Piko also benefits from relatively wider side decks than most boats of comparable size, making a walk forward easier and safer should it be required. The quality of her build and her overall seakindliness are the hallmarks of true blue-water capable boats. The owner has diligently maintained and upgraded her and has kept up with the preventative maintenance, including the replacement of all the through-hull valves and most of the plumbing hoses in 2015. Having acquired her in the USA a few years ago and sailed her across the Pacific and on to our shores, the owner has now moved on to a larger boat and is motivated to sell.

Remarks
If you are looking for a high quality, proven blue water cruiser with "go-anywhere" passage-making ability at an affordable price, look no further! Sometimes dubbed the "French Swans" for the remarkable similarity of their sweet, stylish and traditional lines with the fine Finnish designs, Wauquiez yachts of this era have slowly acquired a cult following over the years, and it is no coincidence that famed world cruisers such as Hal Roth chose the Pretorien 35 as their trusted steed for their circumnavigations. The Pretorien 35 is a true blue water classic and a rarity in the Australian market. With her well appointed sail wardrobe and low engine hours, she is ready to sail you into the sunset.
